We’d like to introduce you to the framing of an oversized Hermès towel.

This framing project had three key points—perfect inspiration for anyone considering framing their own special piece.

Oversized Framing

This Hermès towel is truly massive—measuring 1.5 meters wide and 0.9 meters tall. It’s about the size of a person stretching out their arms, and seeing it in person is nothing short of impressive.

Framing such a large Hermès towel is guaranteed to make it look even more stunning! The customer who brought this to Fabri had an excellent sense of style.

Sewing the Artwork

For this framing, the towel was sewn directly onto the mat board behind it.

Normally, we protect the artwork with glazing—such as acrylic or glass—over the surface. However, per the customer’s request, this towel was left uncovered and exposed.

Because of this, there was a risk that the towel could sag or wrinkle under its own weight, so it had to be sewn securely onto the mat board.

Of course, simply sewing it on is not enough to achieve a beautiful finish.

As you can see in the photos, the towel is mounted perfectly flat thanks to the careful, highly skilled hand-stitching of our Fabri staff. Our team is full of artisans with both exceptional technical skill and great design sense.

A Bold, Wide Frame

Initially, the customer was undecided between a narrow frame and a wide one. However, with a thicker, heavier work like this, a narrow frame can increase the risk of the piece falling out. A wide frame, on the other hand, can provide the necessary support and stability.

In addition, large, impactful works often look more balanced when paired with a wide frame. For this towel, with its size and striking design, the wide frame was the perfect match.

Our staff recommended the wider option, ensuring both safety and a frame that complements the towel’s pattern beautifully.
